A friend asked me the other day if I could write a really good metaphor for what life coaching is about. I’d done this many times before but wanted to say something that was really powerful and visual, so I put the following together. I hope I’ve caught he essence of what life coaching is and what a difference it can make to your life
Imagine your life is a train journey and every now and then you get the opportunity to stop at a station and explore the surrounding area, meet new people and experience new situations. Then when you’ve had enough you make your way back to the train and carry on your journey until the next stop, when you get off and do the same. Imagine though, that this time you can’t find your way back to the train. You’ve got too involved and didn’t notice you were getting lost. You start feeling anxious, losing confidence, you felt sure you knew the way back. You can’t seem to communicate properly with the people you meet and they’re giving you the wrong directions. You feel unsure of the choices you’re making and everything you feel and see is very confusing. If you don’t do something soon you’ll miss the train.

That’s when a Life Coach can help. Now imagine someone taking you gently by the arm and helping you find the right path for you, back to the train, so that you can resume your journey. On the way you discover what’s important for you and how to communicate effectively with people, how to think with clarity and how to stop feeling so anxious and how to make the right choices for you, so the next time the train stops and you decide to take a look around, you’ll know intuitively how to find your own way back to the train station and carry on with your journey.

You know, we are so prepared to spend money on our external appearance to the rest of the world but strangely enough we’re not so keen to invest on our internal appearance to ourselves, but that’s what’s counts. If we’re at peace with ourselves, then we know we look good.
